Siri 2.0: Apple’s AI Revolution Delayed Until 2025
Apple's Siri update won't be available with the initial launch of Apple Intelligence later this year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
According to recent reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the upcoming update to Apple's Siri voice assistant in iOS 18 is not expected to be available as part of the initial launch of Apple Intelligence later this year.
Gurman's latest “Power On” newsletter indicates that the fully revamped version of Siri is projected to arrive with iOS 18.4 in spring 2025. This release will be preceded by a beta testing phase, scheduled to commence in January. The enhanced Siri is designed to offer improved app control capabilities, with the ability to interpret on-screen content and determine appropriate actions based on context.
While the complete Siri upgrade will not be available immediately, the launch of Apple Intelligence this fall is expected to introduce other Siri-related improvements, including a redesigned interface and ChatGPT integration.
In related developments, Gurman reports that both the Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature a new processor, succeeding last year's S9 chip. This hardware update, while not currently slated to support Apple Intelligence, may pave the way for future AI enhancements. So the potential for AI on the Apple Watch platform is certainly intriguing.
Previous reports from Gurman suggest that Apple Intelligence will be integrated into the Vision Pro headset next year. However, the HomePod is not expected to receive this suite of features. Instead, the company is reportedly developing an "AI-powered tabletop robot" for future release.
While the delay will be disappointing for some, these developments signify Apple's ongoing commitment to advancing its AI capabilities across its product ecosystem, with significant updates anticipated over the next two years.
